The good:
Symantec knows the needs of business AV. Via the console manager you can put clients in groups and push out updates on a schedule (at non-peak hours). The console gives you all the data to manage your clients without visiting any of them. Adding new machines to the AV network is a few simple clicks.

The bad:
Setup can be a small pain. If you actually read the docs, you will be confused as to what needs to be installed to make it work. Save yourself some time and call the support team. They are excellent. They will give you the correct info for your setup in no time.

The bottom line:
As noted previously, it is somewhat of a resource hog. However, updates seemed to mitigate this somewhat. Symantec has made great strides to lessen that issue. No AV protection is perfect, but along with your other preventions, you should find this a worthy tool in your prevention armament.

Detailed Review:
In use for six months in a 24×7 environment for a fire protection district. The original installation was an upgrade from 10.2. Was concerned when ran into an install issue first thing. A support request was made to Symantec and help was received within the hour. It was found that IIS was needed and not currently installed on the server. Once that installation was completed the rest of the install was a breeze. The Symantec support person was helpful with several other setup tidbits to be aware of. Did not encounter any other install issues. Setting up the console with the group of clients was a simple process. It discovered them on the network and added them to the group. Then we set up parameters for how and when to push updates to the clients. Tested the clients and they saw the server and the new updates immediately. Have not had any virus intrusions that have gotten past this software. Adjectives to describe E.P. 11.0 – reliable, troublefree, set it and forget it. The server hardware is about 2 years old, dual-core cpu, 4Gb memory, running Windows 2003. Have not seen this software be a drain on these resources. There is other specialized fire dept software that is much more cpu intensive. Have scheduled the updates to occur at the least use period of 3 A.M. In my opinion, the software does what you want it to do – it protects your clients without you having to manually update each one.

Pros

The InFocus IN35 initial setup is straight forward and the basic settings are easy to set and adjust as needed. It has a rather large selection of adjustable settings which is good if your looking to get the most out of your picture quality. Their tech support was also good with minimal wait times.

Cons

The lamp life on the IN35 is rather short compared to other projectors in its class. If you use it often, say as your main television watching projector, be prepared to change the lamp at least very 6 months and be prepared to pony up some cash because they are not very cheap.

Bottom Line

Overall the IN35 is a solid unit. It has a sleek black design which I thought was rather stylish. Bulb brightness was good which is important if you plan on using it with the lights on or during the day. The lamp life is somewhat short but for the retail price of the projector it is a solid buy.

Detailed Review

The InFocus IN35 boasts a stylish black case and wide range of picture settings which can be adjusted for almost any viewing circumstances. Image quality is crisp and sharp with vivid brightness when the right settings are applied for the right occasion such as day or night viewing. Overall the unit is reliable except for one drawback which is the life of the lamp. Daily usage will require the lamp to be replaced approx. every 6 months which is covered under the 1 year warranty and extended 1 year warranty if you decide to purchase it (which I would recommed just because of the short lamp life). Replacing the lamp after the warranty is up will set you back a few hundred dollars. The IN35 would be an excellent purchase for a conference/meeting room type setting where it would be in use for short periods of time. If your considering this unit for TV/movie viewing you may want to consider a different brand as you will be replacing the lamp often.

Pros

Feature rich, with familiar Norstar telephone and voicemail user interfaces. PC or telphone based administration makes administration simple&convenient. Cost effective for small offices yet scalable up to 44 digital sets,1 T1, 4 POTS,4 analog sets, with resources still available for IP sets&trunks

Cons

The BCM50 lacks hardware reduncancy options as well as the division between operating system and telephony services that are some of the strongest features of the BCM product line

Bottom Line

With applications like ACD including web chat, CTI, Unified Messaging, MeetMe Conferencing, there is no small business that the BCM50 can’t support. All-in-one features such as DHCP server, VPN tunnel, and integrated ethernet router make the BCM50 a fully functional singular network appliance.

Detailed Review

The BCM50 is perfect for current users of Norstar CICS/MICS who need to migrate to VoIP as the digital sets are fully compatible and all feature codes and user interfaces remain the same. Keycode activation allows systems to grow as features and capabilities are needed. Mailboxes, internal TDM telephony resources, ACD agents, and unified messaging seat can all be added per user as expansion occurs. The ability to support both VoIP and traditional digital and analog telephony makes the BCM more versatile and reliable than most VoIP systems. In enterprise scenarios, the centralized management interface allows for simple deployment of standardized programming and automating patching and backup operations of all networked BCM50′s.
